Social media giant Twitter commenced BTC Lightning on iOS devices last month and is now testing the same on Android devices.
The social media company has been working towards integrating BTC support for its ‘Tip Jar’ feature. It rolled out the integration to iOS users towards the culmination of last month and is finally rolling out its BTC Lightning tipping feature for Android devices.
Twitter And Strike Collaboration For Bitcoin Payments
It is to be noted that Twitter has a tie-up with Strike, the virtual asset payment solutions giant, to take care of technical support for the platform’s latest BTC tipping service. The rollout is yet to gather pace howbeit should show up for Android users in the United States soon.
Apropos the development, the CTO at Bitfinex, Paolo Ardoino mentioned,
“We welcome Twitter’s decision to allow bitcoin Lightning Network payments on Android devices. We may see a ready uptake among those using the tipping feature. The Lightning Network is capable of overseeing billions of transactions per second, an extraordinary advance from bitcoin’s current rate of 7 transactions per second. It also far exceeds traditional payment providers that currently manage about 60,000 transactions per second.”
He added,
“The possibilities are really endless because Lightning Network overcomes scalability obstacles associated with the blockchain without surrendering security, trustlessness, or privacy. As a pure peer-to-peer protocol that is extremely scalable, the Lightning Network is poised to succeed in achieving mass adoption for bitcoin as a means of payment.”
It is to be noted that Twitter is also working on support for NFT authentication. The feature will make it possible for users to show off their NFT collection on the social media platform.
